It all starts quite innocently with some naive, unassuming growers, some blooming plants, a van with plenty of clearance, and a vision of sugarplums. So come with us now to Classroom 3 at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Watch grown men and women count little flowers and measure their teensy petals. Marvel as you hear them proclaim the merits or demerits of a flower. Ponder the meaning of it all! Jim Spatzek working on a Cattleya schilleriana ... ... while Sue Golan communes with an Ascocenda. Successful plants keep a date with the judging center's photographer, Rhonda Peters. "Oh that's where that extra flash came from!" John Stubbings and Sherry Maloney consulting the Wildcatt Orchid Database. Or is John pointing out red nine on black ten?
