Did it occur to us that 2002 marked our 50th anniversary as a society? Rather. Shortly after we hosted the 1992 Fall Mid-America Show, John Stubbings suggested to the board that we apply to host another such show in 2002 in conjunction with our anniversary. It would be necessary that we take a turn before then, thus the 1997 Spring Mid-America Show which we gladly hosted. But the thought kept popping up, that maybe '97 was just a dress rehearsal for '02. In time, we were granted the 2002 show date. That alone brought a lot of the orchid world to our party. But then we applied to host the 2002 AOS Trustees' Spring Meeting in conjunction with the show. And we received that, too. And somewhere along the line, was put in charge of planning and organizing the event. And then he drafted as Co-Chair. Uh huh. We had a party. A happy one. April 10 - 14, 2002 So now we've tied a ribbon around our first half-century. The memories will linger for a very long time. We will pursue our passion and we will share it with others. And may there always be another show and another celebration on the horizon.
