Monthly Meetings
Effective January, 2005 we resumed meeting at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe.
We began a scrapbook of pictures from our meetings in 2003. We invite you to peruse our Meeting Scrapbook.
We try to meet on the 2nd Sunday of each month, but occasionally that date is not available. Members and interested parties are advised to check the newsletter and/or this website page to be sure of the meeting date. Exceptions to the regular meeting site or schedule include a picnic in August, a Christmas party in December, two shows, spring and fall, and, every few years, a drive-around to members' homes, a field trip to a nursery, or a field trip to a native orchid conservation site.
Members displaying plants should have them registered and in place by 12:30 PM. Here are printable plant entry tags.
The Mentors (Newcomers) Early Meeting begins at 11:30 AM. The workshop, of particular interest to newbies, begins at 12:30 PM. It is followed by a short business meeting and then the lecture by a guest speaker.
Members are encouraged to bring fruit and homemade pastries for the social hour that follows the lecture. Especially chocolate mousse pies .... mmmmm. Coffee is served.
January 8, 2012 ... Leo Schordje is this month's speaker. Leo's topic is Ever Blooming Orchids for Under Lights and the Windowsill and he will discuss a few strategies for building an orchid collection that always has something in bloom. Katie Payeur will conduct the workshop. Her topic is Labeling Plants/Variety of Labels.
February 12, 2012 ... Nile Dusdieker will offer two short topics: Spiders Gnats and Greenhoods - Native Terrestrial Orchids of Victoria, Australia and An Overview of the 20th World Orchid Congress, Singapore, November 2011. For the workshop Becky Luce Kopesdy will discuss Cattleyas, Becky Style.
March 18, 2012 ... Ron Parsons, the celebrated flower photographer, is going to show us The Orchids Of Crete and Greece. The workshop is TBA.

This is the meeting at which we hold elections for officers and
directors for the coming year (July 1, 2012 - June 30, 2013).
June 10, 2012 ... A visit to Natt's Orchids in Naperville.
This is the meeting at which at which the winners of the annual growers
contest are announced.
July 8, 2012 ... Fred Clarke from Sunset Valley Orchids visits to tell us about Current Trends in Mini and Compact Cattleya Breeding. The workshop is TBA.
(Saturday) August 11, 2012 ... Our annual picnic at Oak Hill Gardens hosted, as always, by Dorothy and Hermann Pigors, Liese Pigors-Butler and Greg Butler. Topic TBA. Doors open at 10:00 AM. (A few snapshots from last year's picnic are posted here).
September 9, 2012 ... Marni Turkel (pronounced tur KELL ... from her bio ;-)) brings her Give It a Rest program to our meeting. The workshop is TBA.
October 13-14, 2012 ... Our Fall Mini-Show.
November 11, 2012 ... Peter Lin of Diamond Orchids visits to speak on the topic of The 3 A's of the Orchid World: Angraecum, Aerangis, and Aeranthes. The workshop is TBA.
December 9, 2012 ... Once again, our annual holiday extravaganza, held at Hausermann's. Doors are open at 11 a.m. Your admission ticket is a hot or cold dish sufficient to feed five or six or a dozen. Bring a designated driver so you can enjoy the punch!
